Omega chains are usually short and can be worn as chokersDo you know what an omega necklace is and how it is worn? If you are interested in this type of chain, read on. Let’s see how you should choose and take care of omega chains.

What Are Omega Chains?

An omega necklace or omega chain is a flat necklace made up of metal segments joined together. These chains are usually short and can be worn as chokers; they come in lengths between 16 and 20 inches.

Omega chains can sometimes have pendants, which are called slides or sliders due to their specific design, which allows them to move freely along the chain.

Protecting Your Omega Chain

One of the downsides of omega chains is that they can easily kink and bend. The structure of these necklaces makes them very vulnerable, and if twisted, they can get damaged beyond repair.

You should be careful not to bend your omega chain. Don’t let it snag your clothes, and don’t sleep with it as lying and turning over in bed may cause your chain to twist.

Can a Bent Omega Necklace Be Fixed?

Once you twist your omega chain, it could be hard to repair. However, depending on how much damage is done, fixing your necklace may not be impossible.

Usually, if your omega necklace needs to be straightened, the jeweler will cut it and work on its inner structure and outer segments around the kink. Then, the necklace will be rejoined. Depending on how kinked the chain was, it may become less flexible at the place it was bent.

Sometimes, if the twist is more serious, the outer segments in the damaged area may need to be removed, and the necklace will become a bit shorter.

If your omega chain was damaged and then fixed, you should be careful with the area where the repair was done as the chain will be more vulnerable there.

Selecting a Pendant for Your Omega Chain

Choosing the right pendant (or slide) for an omega necklace might seem like a purely aesthetic decision, but it can actually affect how likely the chain will be to get damaged.

If your pendant fits too snugly on the chain, it may make the necklace twist or it could snag the chain segments. That’s why the pendant should be loose enough to move freely along the chain.

Also, make sure that the pendant is not too heavy for the chain you have selected. If the necklace is too thin, the pendant might bend it, and the kink may become permanent.

Make Sure Your Omega Necklace Is the Right Length

You should ensure that your omega chain is not too long or too short for the size of your neck. If the necklace doesn’t fit you properly, it will twist or kink and will be more prone to damage.

When selecting an omega chain, try different lengths and see which fits best. The necklace should sit straight, without twisting too much to one side when worn.
